The adviser a principal calls before the board does.

Manolutions advises founders, owners, and chief executives who carry the risk personally. Counsel, not coaching, from someone who has sat where you sit and carried what you carry.

Most of the people who reach us have been round the circuit. Consultants who handed over slides that moved nothing. Peer groups too facilitated to say anything hard. The headline names, read and shelved.

What they’re short of by the time they get here isn’t advice. It’s closure. The issue on the desk this month is the one that was there last quarter under a different name, and nobody left in the room has the standing to end it. That’s the work: not more input, fewer open loops.

Why is it called Manolutions?

The name was coined in the Netherlands more than 20 years ago, for a company supplying management solutions to corporate and business markets. It said exactly what it did: management and solutions, run together. That company is this one. It has carried the same name through every jurisdiction it has worked in since, through Belgium, where we added BsnssRcks, and on to Australia, which is where the firm operates from now.

What changed is what the first syllable carries. The businesses that hold their value are the ones that work for the people inside them, not only on the balance sheet, and over time the “man” stopped pointing only at management and began pointing at the human element as well. The name never changed. Its meaning transmuted, which is precisely what we ask of the businesses we work with. What we mean by transmutation.

What does Manolutions do?

Advisory. The hard calls, the ones with real money and reputation attached, worked through with someone who has made them before. How we work with you.

Leadership and management training. Three tiers. The Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB40520) is nationally accredited; we teach it, and KnowledgeAccess, a separate body, assesses and certifies it. The Diploma (BSB50420) and Advanced Diploma (BSB60420) have accreditation pending, and we won’t call them accredited until they are. See the training.

Leadership counsel. One person, no course and no cohort, for whoever is carrying the business. See the one-to-one counsel.

How do we read a business?

Total QX treats a company as one connected human and commercial system rather than a stack of departments. Every improvement is held to a single standard.

Good for the customer. Good for the people delivering it. Good for the business. All at once.

Improve one by quietly charging another and you haven’t optimised anything. You’ve moved the cost somewhere harder to see. Read how the framework works.

What do we put at risk?

In a small number of engagements we take an equity stake as well as the fee, not in place of it. Where that happens we’re holding a position in the outcome rather than only a view on it.

It isn’t a package and it isn’t advertised. It’s arrived at privately, the circumstances are narrow, and they tend to be plain to both sides when they arise. The work itself doesn’t change either way. The exposure does.

Who is behind it?

The judgement is Paul Lange’s. Close to four decades across finance, technology, hospitality, professional services, and operating roles, in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Australia. Five of his own companies built and taken through to exit, and those are the substantial ones. There were others that didn’t work, which is where most of the learning came from and which he’ll tell you about if you ask.

Private equity and venture capital are part of that, and they’re the part people tend to fixate on. They didn’t come first, and they aren’t what earns the judgement. Paul started behind a bar in Düsseldorf and built his first business while he was still working it. He was brought into private equity as an equal financial founding partner, with his own money in, precisely because he could already make a business work: his job from the first day was to go inside the companies the firm invested in and fix what wasn’t, alongside the founders, owners, and management teams. Total QX grew out of that work. More on the founder.

Common questions

Who does Manolutions work with?
Founders, owners, and chief executives of businesses that already work and still run on one person. Mid-market for the most part, and across industries rather than one vertical.
Who is it not for?
Anyone after motivation, a peer group, or a deck. If the business is failing rather than operating, we’re the wrong call.
Is this consulting, or coaching?
Neither, quite. We don’t run the project for you, and we don’t coach. We bring senior judgement to the decisions that carry real money, and in a small number of engagements we take an equity stake alongside the fee, so we’re carrying some of the outcome with you.
Do I have to take a sales call?
No. Read what’s here, decide in your own time, and write when you have.
What happens if I write?
Paul reads it, not an assistant, and answers within two working days. If there’s something to talk about we’ll arrange a conversation; if there isn’t, he’ll say so and tell you what would serve you better. Nobody will chase you afterwards.

If it reads like your situation, we should talk.
