Leadership and Management Training

Three tiers, arranged by where a leader actually sits rather than where they’d like to. One of the three is nationally accredited, the other two are pending accreditation.

The Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB40520) is nationally accredited. We teach it, and KnowledgeAccess, a separate body, assesses and certifies it. The Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) and the Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB60420) both have accreditation pending, and we will not describe them as accredited until they are.

What are you actually buying?

Two separate things, and they’re worth pulling apart before anyone signs anything.

The qualification is the qualification. Its requirements are set by the national training package, not by us. For the Certificate IV, assessment and certification sit with KnowledgeAccess, not with the people who did the teaching. While we grade your work, we cannot grade or assess it for purposes of the accreditation, and that constraint is the only reason a credential is worth carrying. It’s a real, industry standard based on a recognised third party assessment.

What you’re buying from us is the teaching. The units are fixed; how they’re taught is not. Ours is grounded in Total QX, the framework behind the firm’s advisory work, and in close to four decades of running businesses rather than reading about them. Leadership here is treated as a set of things a person does under pressure, not a set of things a person is. That’s the difference between someone who can pass an assessment and someone who can hold a room when the plan changes at four o’clock on a Friday.

Which tier fits?

By where the leader sits now.

The Emerging Leader

Leading a team. Accredited: Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB40520). Assessment and certification by KnowledgeAccess. The course is the Emerging Leaders Program.

  • Who it’s for. The supervisor, the team leader, the technically strong person who has just been handed people and found out that the two jobs have almost nothing in common.
  • What it covers. Communicating clearly enough that instructions don’t need repeating. Building and leading a team that holds together under pressure rather than only on a good week. Planning, executing, and evaluating work precisely enough that the result can be measured rather than merely felt.
  • What they leave with. The qualification, issued externally, and a management practice they can run from the Monday after.

The Strategic Leader

Leading a function. Aligns to the Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420). Accreditation pending: until it’s granted, this runs as a programme and not as a qualification, and nobody here will imply otherwise. The course is Advanced Leadership Mastery.

  • Who it’s for. Established and middle leaders, accountable for outcomes past their own team and usually working through people who don’t report to them.
  • What it covers. Leading change that survives contact with the rest of the organisation. Holding cross-functional work together when your authority over it is partial. Building a standard that outlasts a single project or a single personality.
  • What they leave with. The qualification, issued externally, and the ability to carry a result through a business they don’t control, which is the specific thing that separates a middle leader from a good team leader who’s been promoted.

The Executive Leader

Leading a business. Aligns to the Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB60420). Accreditation pending, on the same footing as the Diploma. The course is Executive Leadership Excellence.

  • Who it’s for. Senior and executive leaders setting direction for the organisation as a whole.
  • What it covers. Strategy at the altitude where it changes what the business is actually for. The judgement to hold a direction under real complexity and incomplete information, and to know the difference between a plan that has failed and one that’s simply early. Building purpose and commercial durability into decisions rather than into a statement on a wall.
  • What they leave with. The qualification, issued externally, and a defensible way of making the calls that don’t come with enough information, which is most of the calls at that level.

How is it delivered?

Delivery is built around the organisation rather than a fixed timetable. We run the training for a team inside your business, or for individuals who come on their own. Support runs from enrolment through to assessment.

Common questions

Is the Certificate IV nationally accredited?
Yes. Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, BSB40520, with assessment and certification provided by KnowledgeAccess.
Are the Diploma and the Advanced Diploma accredited?
Not yet. Both are pending. They run as programmes in the meantime, and we state that everywhere rather than in a footnote. You can start now, and even complete the programme, before accreditation lands. When it is granted, the work you have already done is credited toward the qualification through recognition of prior learning, so none of it is repeated.
Do we have to do all three?
No. Each tier stands on its own and is chosen by where the leader actually sits. Most organisations start with the tiers that match the people they already have.
Why does the training reference Total QX if the qualification is national?
Because the units are set nationally and the teaching is not. The framework is how the material gets taught and connected to a working business. It changes nothing about the assessment. It changes everything about what you take back to the business.
Who is this not for?
The owner or chief executive who wants a counterpart rather than a curriculum. Training is a course, a cohort, and an assessment: that’s the right shape for building capability in a team, and the wrong shape for the person carrying the whole business. If that’s you, the one-to-one work is leadership counsel, and it’s a different thing entirely.

If one of the three fits you or your team, write and say which. Paul reads it, not an assistant. You’ll have an answer within two working days.
