Total QX framework

Core principles and pillars

The foundation the whole framework rests on: the Cornerstone, three Tenets, three Pillars, and twelve Principles, in brief.

Total QX rests on a deliberate foundation: one Cornerstone, three Tenets, three Pillars, and twelve Principles. Everything else in the framework is built on these four layers.

What holds the framework up?

Four layers, each doing a different job. The Cornerstone sets the standard everything serves. The Tenets are the mindsets people bring to the work. The Pillars carry the operating weight. The twelve Principles guide each decision as it’s made. Tenets and Pillars get confused all the time; they’re not the same thing, and the difference is the point.

The Cornerstone: Harmonised Centricity

Harmonised Centricity is the single anchor: good for the customer, good for the staff, good for the business, held together. Improve one by quietly charging another and you haven’t optimised anything, you’ve just moved the cost somewhere less visible. Everything below serves this.

The three Tenets: how people show up

The Tenets of Engagement are mindsets, the human posture the work is done from.

  • Gratitude. Noticing and acknowledging value, so effort and contribution don’t go invisible.
  • Meditation. Presence and composure, so the person in front of you is met, not processed.
  • Non-Verbal Communication. Reading and matching the unspoken, because people trust what they sense before what they’re told.

The three Pillars: what carries the weight

The Pillars of Pragmatic Excellence turn intent into reliable delivery.

  • Strategic Foundations. The direction and decisions that make action purposeful.
  • Tactical Mastery. The disciplined, agile execution that turns strategy into measurable results.
  • Operational Dynamics. The systems that make good results repeatable, scalable, and sustainable.

The Twelve Principles

Twelve Principles guide each decision. A few carry the flavour of the set:

  • Customer-and-Staff-Centricity. Design around what customers and staff actually need.
  • Holistic Experience Design. Shape the whole experience end to end, not one moment of it.
  • Continuous Improvement. Treat the work as never quite finished.
  • Profit with Purpose. Make money in a way that carries purpose and leaves a positive mark.

The full twelve, each explained, are on the detailed version of this page.

Common questions

Aren’t the Tenets and the Pillars the same thing? No, and it’s a common mix-up. The three Tenets (Gratitude, Meditation, Non-Verbal Communication) are mindsets: how people show up. The three Pillars (Strategic Foundations, Tactical Mastery, Operational Dynamics) are structure and function: what carries the operating weight. One is human, the other is mechanical, and Total QX needs both.

How are the Principles different from the Pillars? The Pillars are the structural supports that hold the business up. The twelve Principles are the rules you apply to each decision inside it. Pillars hold the building up; Principles guide each brick you lay.

Where does the Cornerstone fit? Underneath all of it. Harmonised Centricity is the anchor the Tenets, Pillars, and Principles all serve: the test that every improvement stays good for customer, staff, and business at once.
