Total QX framework

Implementation and diagnostic tools

The instruments that turn Total QX into something you can spark, measure, validate, and diagnose, in full.

A framework you can’t measure is just an opinion. Total QX comes with a set of instruments that turn it into something you can run: spark a better interaction, measure how it landed, keep the feedback flowing, and read where the business stands. Some are developed and ready; some are still being built. This page is straight about which is which.

The spark: the QX Catalyst

A QX Catalyst is the deliberate action that turns a routine moment into a memorable one. It’s what starts a designed touchpoint: an unexpected, well-judged move that sparks a real response rather than processing a transaction. Finding your own catalysts is practical work, not guesswork. Look at where customers and staff already light up, and where they’re let down; both are catalysts waiting to be built. Then craft each one deliberately: tie it to a clear objective, root it in what the brand actually stands for, and let the people delivering it own it. The QX Catalyst is the spark every other tool here measures. (Developed.)

Measuring the interaction: the Engagement Efficacy Scale

The Engagement Efficacy Scale (EES) rates a single interaction on where it lands, from forgettable to unforgettable. Five levels:

  1. Forgettable. Passive on both sides; no real spark, no lasting impression.
  2. Typical. Meets the basic expectation; a standard, unremarkable exchange.
  3. Engaging. Starts to build a genuine bond; the interaction comes alive.
  4. Memorable. A strong emotional connection; a synchronised, meaningful moment.
  5. Unforgettable. A story-worthy interaction that forges a lasting relationship.

Rate each interaction, for staff as well as customers, and the individual scores aggregate into an Engagement Impact Score that shows the trend across a period, a team, or a campaign. Score the poor interactions honestly, or the picture flatters you. (Developed.)

Seeing the pattern: the Engagement Impact Matrix

The Engagement Impact Matrix (EIM) plots your activities on two axes: Engagement Depth (how deeply an activity connects with staff and customers) against Operational Impact (how much it moves the business). Four quadrants tell you what to do with each:

  • Experiential Champions (high depth, high impact). The ideal: they deepen connection and move the business at once. Do more of these.
  • Efficiency Drivers (high impact, low depth). They work operationally but leave people cold; add an engagement layer.
  • Connection Cultivators (high depth, low impact). People love them, but they aren’t yet earning their keep; find the operational payoff.
  • Engagement Foundations (low depth, low impact). Necessary housekeeping; keep it lean, and look for what to rethink.

(Developed.)

Keeping feedback alive: Interactive Engagement Circuits

Interactive Engagement Circuits turn the old one-way feedback loop into an ongoing, two-way dialogue. Instead of a survey fired off after the fact, a Circuit captures a customer’s or a colleague’s reaction close to the moment, routes it back, and visibly acts on it, which is what keeps people contributing. It’s the connective tissue that keeps the whole system honest, and it runs across customers, staff, and suppliers alike. (Developed.)

Holding what you learn: the Experience Feedback Repository

The Experience Feedback Repository (EFR) is the single home for the qualitative side of experience: the feedback, the stories, and the insight from customers and staff that the numbers alone don’t carry. It’s what gives the Engagement Impact Matrix its human context, the reason behind a score. (In development: the canon treatment is currently a brief card, being expanded into a fuller specification.)

Checking what’s really delivered: Secret Customers

Even a well-designed touchpoint benefits from an outside check. Secret Customers uses a briefed undercover visitor, in person or online, to see what a real customer actually experiences, rather than what the process assumes they do. Handled with a structured brief and report, it surfaces the gap between designed and delivered. (In development: currently a stub, with fuller source material to be added.)

Diagnosing where you stand: the TILE-QX Diagnostic

The TILE-QX Diagnostic is the bridge between Total QX and a separate framework, TILE (Total Industry Life Cycle Evolution), which maps how an industry moves through six stages, from Industry Groundbreakers to Market Maintainers. The idea is straightforward: where a business sits in that lifecycle changes how Total QX should be applied, and the diagnostic is meant to place the business in its stage and point to the right emphasis for it. (Planned, not yet built: this is a specification, reconstructed from earlier material. The working tool, its questions, scoring, and interface, is future work, not something you can run today.)

How the tools work together

Read as a set, the logic is simple. A QX Catalyst sparks a deliberate moment. The Engagement Efficacy Scale rates how it landed, and the scores roll up into an Impact Score. The Engagement Impact Matrix shows which activities deserve more attention and which need rethinking. Interactive Engagement Circuits keep the feedback flowing, the Experience Feedback Repository holds the story behind the numbers, and Secret Customers check that the designed experience is the delivered one. The TILE-QX Diagnostic, once built, will set all of it in the context of where the business stands in its industry. You don’t need the whole set to start; you need the next tool that answers your next question.

Common questions

Do I need all of these? No. Start with one QX Catalyst and the Engagement Efficacy Scale. That alone will tell you more than most businesses know about their own interactions. Add the others as the questions get more specific.

Which are available now, and which aren’t? The QX Catalyst, the Engagement Efficacy Scale, the Engagement Impact Matrix, and Interactive Engagement Circuits are developed. The Experience Feedback Repository and Secret Customers are in active development. The TILE-QX Diagnostic is specified but not yet built. We say so plainly rather than imply more exists than does.

Do I need software to run them? Not to start. The Efficacy Scale works on judgement and a simple record; integrating it with your CRM earns its place when you want consistency and a reliable trend across many interactions.
